Introduction and CV

Introduction

In 2024, a mad scientist finally cracked after witnessing too many unsettling truths. Escaping the System, he promptly fled to Tallinn’s private sector. Now, still wary of the System, he survives as a scientist of fortune. If you have a scientific problem, if no one else can help, and if you’re looking for a nutty professor — maybe you can hire him right here.

Fields under excruciating experimentation

  • BIOENERGETICS

Energy flows through most systems and is connected to most topics, so specializing in it has provided a solid foundation for understanding human physiology in a more integrated and coherent way—something that is usually studied across various different schools of thought. I focus on understanding human energetics across different organizational levels, from physics and chemistry to the level of the organism. As a result, I have a strong grasp of thermodynamics; metabolic catabolism; the energetics of muscle, blood, and nerve cells; and physiological states related to energy balance (eating, sleeping, exercising, cold exposure, inflammation, stress).

FORMALLY – My master’s thesis was titled: “Developmental and age-related changes in the energy transfer network profile in cardiomyocytes.” I developed and taught an elective course at TTK University of Applied Sciences titled "Introduction to Bioenergetics", 2 ECTS credits, taught across 6 terms. I have conducted 9 trainings on the topic and reviewed one thesis.

  • STEM CELLS

My attraction to stem cells was “love at first sight.” Since then, I’ve realized that: 1) I likely love the field because it is part of regenerative medicine, which restores our natural abilities rather than merely alleviating symptoms; and 2) This field progresses very slowly under our local conditions, and there are compelling reasons for that. After developing a course on the subject, I feel I now have a good overview of what is being done in Estonia. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, which I got to know at the North Estonia Medical Centre (PERH), is well-developed here, though not regenerative in the classical sense. There is also a (super)cleanroom facility created by passionate enthusiasts in Estonia, where truly regenerative stem cells are produced—this kind of potential deserves more practical application. Currently, my interest is more academic, with a desire to stay informed. Knowledge of regenerative physiology nicely balances the perspective offered by bioenergetics, which focuses more on energy expenditure.

FORMALLY – I developed and taught an elective course at TTK University of Applied Sciences titled "Stem Cells in Clinical Practice", 2 ECTS credits, taught for 1 term. I have conducted 3 trainings on the topic. I received specialist training in stem cell production at Cellin, with a 2-month program. I completed my applied higher education specialization internship in immunology at PERH, where I also worked with hematopoietic stem cells.

  • PSYCHOBIOLOGY

The psyche is likely the area of greatest human interest. While teaching bioenergetics, stress was the only topic that students voluntarily asked questions about. Since my expertise had previously been more grounded and technical, I began researching stress, and eventually other mental phenomena as well, tying them closely to biomedicine. To get a complete picture, I use material from peer-reviewed scientific journals (physiology, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, social sciences), folk wisdom (common beliefs, proverbs, cultural perspectives), as well as personal and shared experiences. This approach has brought clarity and simplicity to even the most common mental phenomena (stress, love, boredom) in my own life, and I definitely plan to continue on this path—hopefully tying it into doctoral studies or scientific research.

This is the field I would most like to continue teaching, as such knowledge should be accessible to everyone.

FORMALLY – I have given two 45-minute internal trainings on stress and two on love biology at PERH. Preparing for these took 400 hours.

  • LABORATORY DIAGNOSTICS

All of my university-level education and professional work has taken place in laboratory settings, working with various analyzers and mainly examining biological materials. A large part of this has been dedicated to diagnostics, which, in addition to the technical aspect, has given me experience in interpreting results. While diagnosing disease is practically important, researching natural abilities and characteristics—which leans more toward science than medicine—is even more fascinating to me.

FORMALLY – I obtained an applied higher education degree in Bioanalytics from TTK University of Applied Sciences and a master’s degree in Natural Sciences from Tallinn University in the Molecular Biochemistry and Ecology curriculum. I worked for 10 years in the diagnostics lab at the North Estonia Medical Centre (SA PERH), one quarter of that in the blood center’s immunohematology department, and three quarters in the clinical lab, which provides 24/7 support to the hospital.
